The following is a story, told by Edward to his children
about the German PoW escape 10/12th March 1945
At about 3.00 am in the morning, following the discovery of the attempted
escape, Dad was asked to prepare the kitchen ready for feeding the returning
group. I’m not sure whether-or-not the instruction was to feed both soldiers
and escapees, but Dad obviously intended everyone would be fed, Whoever
was his commanding officer, or subordinate, came into the mess and demanded
to know who instructed him to feed the German prisoners and furthermore
it was his intention to reprimand him (not sure what the consequences of
such a threat would mean). Dad replied if that was his intention he would
inform his superiors that the officer regularly requested extra rations
and requests to provide food for his parties and entertainment. Well done
Dad!!!!. No action was taken against him.

He stayed at the camp until 11th June 1945 when he goes
on a cooking course at Aldershot.
